We build the tools needed for Human-AI synergy

We’re driven by the belief that AI will be pivotal in helping humanity face its greatest challenges to date.

Sharing a common vision of a brighter, better future through the application of AI, we’ve made it our mission to ensure that humans and AI can develop a mutual understanding, learn from each other, and collaborate, so that AI grows to be safe, reliable and trustworthy.

So, in 2017, we set out to solve major problems of traditional AI:

High cost of admission and numerous barriers to entry for organizations

Here are some of the barriers to entry that we abolish by using in-context Human-AI collaboration as a sort of bootstrapping method:

  • Doesn’t need large amounts of data on which to train an AI

  • Doesn’t call for in-house data science teams to design, train and retrain AI

  • No major changes to work method and infrastructure without guarantee of ROI (or vendor lock-in)

  • Does away with high computing costs for long training periods (that often come with vendor lock-in)

  • Can actually produce results in high-complexity, high-uncertainty or fast-changing scenarios

1

AI can’t replace human expertise and judgement - and we wouldn’t want it to

That’s why we build tools to deliver AI that can keep up with human expertise and changing world conditions. That’s possible with AI that:

  • Trains with an organization’s human experts, in context.

  • Continually learns, so it adapts and doesn’t lose its value due to drift.

  • Works alongside human experts, supporting them with insights, prioritization and actions

  • Alleviates human experts’ mental load so they can focus on what matters

2

Major lack of trust and reliability when it comes to AI training and use

Our unique approach to AI has humans and AI evolving in a shared environment, so they’re sharing the same experiences. Trust is built over time because:

  • Human experts have visibility on what the AI learns from, can correct it and guide it at any point in time

  • Organizations and their experts always retain control on what the AI can do, see and under which conditions

  • Our tech allows the seamless transition from simulation to real, allowing for an iterative, low-cost and low-risk approach

3

The technology simply didn’t exist… yet

And because it didn’t exist, no one had done this before.

That’s why we’ve assembled a team of pioneers who can bridge the worlds of simulation and cutting-edge AI research, and then set out to work on what would become Cogment™, which we released in Open Source in 2021 and continue to expand upon alongside our other offerings.

Little did we know, we were pioneering RLHF, which is one of two key things that made ChatGPT into the success that it is according to the CEO of OpenAI!
